Stakeholder Interviews:
In order to gain a more comprehensive overview of Southern Nash Middle School, I asked a series of questions to teachers, staff, parents and students. Each individual was asked five general questions: 1) What are the greatest assets at SNMS? 2) What are the school's greatest accomplishments? 3) What is the greatest challenge at SNMS? 4) How can I help Southern Nash Middle School? 5) What do you see a the role of a school leader.
I compiled the responses into individual wordles to serve as a visual representation of the reoccurring themes that surfaced in each interview.
Greatest Assets:
A majority of the stakeholders I spoke with mentioned teachers and students as Southern Nash Middle School's greatest asset. Many of those who listed teachers as our greatest asset, more specifically feel that the true assest is how our teachers function and are supported in Professional Learning Communities.
Greatest Accomplishments:
Most stakeholders feel that our school's greatest accomplishment over the last few year has been continued growth on student assessments and our overall test scores. Those who mentioned test scores, often feel that the continuous growth was a direct result of the hard work and effort put forth by Southern Nash Middle School's staff.
Greatest Challenges:
Many stakeholders feel that our population is the greatest challenge. Taking a deeper look at their responses, many of those who mentioned population spoke specifically about how the low socioeconomic population often effects parent involvement, access to technology and limited student experiences that contribue to preexisting knowledge.
How Can I Help:
A majority of stakeholders feel that my role this year is to be visible. Specifically, many teachers also feel that my role is to provide curriculum support by sharing Common Core information, and by assisting the existing administration whenever possible.
The Role of an Administrator:
Most stakeholders feel that the role of an administrator is to be supportive. They feel that an administrator can be supportive by acting as a positive role model and making the needed decisions to ensure a safe, consistent and positive environment.
Human Asset Table:
The staff at Southern Nash Middle does range from first year to veteran teachers; however, the majority of our teachers have between ten to twenty years of experience. Many of our staff members were once students at Southern Nash Middle [Junior High] School.
